My Sisters Dolls

These are my sisters hand made dolls that are in a local gift local near where I live. She makes them out of vintage Japanese fabrics, laces, buttons and ribbons.  The hair is made from wool and some even have beautiful Thai silk!....  They are so gorgeous!

She then hands paints the faces on. Most of these have since sold which is great for her first attempt at retailing these.  Go Jules!

CREATIVITEA!!!

CALM, CONTENTMENT, CREATIVITY AND COINTREAU!!

Well the above title is my theme for 2012 this year.  I have these themes each year because it just helps me focus on what I think is important for that year and what I want to bring out within myself........accompanied by an alcohol of choice to help celebrate these great occasions of course!.

I am really late posting this blog because life is just crazy busy sometimes between Facebook, the world of mixed media, working, cleaning, family etc etc.  Even though this is a waaaaay late blog post, I want to put this on my blog because I am so happy that I got to meet a lady who's art I have long admired.

I first "discovered" images of Denise's paintings about 4/5 years ago. It was a few years after I had taken up painting again after a long hiatus. I loved Denise's use of vibrant colours and the fun and joy that exudes from her paintings and was something in line with what I was doing and where I hoped to be one day.  Well I printed a few pics out (permission recently obtained...woops!) stuck them on my desk at work and when I wished I was painting or in a happier place I looked at those pictures.  I thought if someone is out there making art their lives why can't I?.....WHY CAN'T I???? WHY CAN'T I???

I cannot tell you how many times I looked at those paintings for inspiration, motivation and hope.......they have travelled to many a desk I have worked at and are now on my board at home....still right in front of me!

Well, I finally got to meet this beautiful lady I long admired and she is just the loveliest, warmest, giving and wonderful tea making lady you could meet!!!!..........and she can be sooo funny too! I have done several classes with her now and always take away a little something new or a phrase and great memories.  Denise has a wonderful website so if you are interested in any of her "Creativitea" classes or her artwork, go to http://www.denisedaffara.com.au/

Now I don't make money out of my art, I just do it because it gives me great inner peace but it doesn't mean I don't aspire to one day...cause that would be awesome!!!

In the meantime thanks Denise for coming into my life and making it just a little shinier!!!!

Below are some pics of mixed media paintings I have done at her classes.

Art Journalling 2012

So....... I started art journalling this year (thank you to Willowing.org), it is a really good way of working on small projects that fill that creative need and also fabulous because you can carry it with you anywhere.  No need to cart big canvases along with you when you can just pull out your journal and starting painting, doodling or drawing etc.

Anyway here are a few pics of what is in my journal so far.  I love the doodles and want to put this onto canvas, paint it with my Carne Dache water soluble crayons and make pillows for my lounge out of them!

Needs something to finish it off, I will come back to it!

Doodle Do!

I love to Doodle!

Paint crayons and doodles!

I put a filter over this, kind of like it!

Chin Chin!.........for my friend Rachelle.

It was my girlfriend Rachelle's birthday in February and after a great catch up one Friday (with too many sticky ribs and way too much red wine), she asked me when I was going to do her a painting?

Now I don't know about everyone else but I have problems with people looking at my art, yet alone giving a painting to someone as a present.  I guess at the back of mind I feel that art is such a personal thing, how horrible would it be to give a painting to someone and they don't like it! (agggghh internal cringe!).

Now I know my friend Rachelle likes my paintings so I thought, yeah time I got over this and start doing paintings that I am comfortable with passing onto my nearest and dearest.

This internal negativity I have when I paint is something that I am working on this year, I am a bit like a deer in the headlights when I start to paint, frozen with fear of where to start and what to do.  Once I get going I am o.k but it is something I need to work on.  Soooo, I enrolled in the Willowing "Life Book 2012" for the whole year.....woohhooo!....art journal and wrestling with my inner beast all combined into one....and it is for the whole year of 2012!  If anyone wants to visit the willowing website go to www.willowing.org I just love, love, love this site and have so far enrolled for 5 courses to do this year!......YES!

SHE LOVES THE STORY
Anyway, back to it!............So, I did the mixed media painting you can see here for my friend.  She is always saying that "She Loves the Story"....the stories of how she met her partner, the stories of her travels, the stories of her friends.  So I incorporated this into her painting.  We met while working at Bright Bots so I included that logo, she then went overseas for quite some time and we lost contact (hence the little aeroplane) but she tracked me down on her return to Australia and every since we have been catching up, having laughs and usually all while drinking a little (well not always little) glass of red and always with a chin chin and clink of glasses!  The edges of the painting were then finished off with a paint brush pen with the words "friends are like treasures!"

So 1 down and hopefully many more to go!

PS Delivery is on it's way Rachelle!
